NEED HELP RE DEBT VERIFICATION

I just found a PDL on my credit report I disputed it with Experian and was told that the debt was verified. I have been requesting a debt verification from this company since September of 07 both verbally and in writing and have received nothing. Last night I contacted yet another company that says they have 4 PDL's in their office I told them that I wanted something in writing and the women told me she did not have to provide me with anything and that the deposit to my checking acct (which I say I did not apply for) is my verification. I told her by law she had to provide it and she told me to quote the law to her and that she did not. Does she? It was always my understanding that they did. I live in NYS. I contacted the AG and they are sending me a complaint form. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Did they ever send you a letter saying that you owe? By law they have to send you a letter within 5 days of initial contact, which would be that telephone call. That letter triggers your right to dispute within 30 days.

If they never sent you a letter and it is on your credit report, you can send them a validation letter citing that you never received any written communications from them.

You may have to take them to court to get them to comply.

No, they never sent me anything. The first time they contacted me was about 3 weeks ago and I requested the validation from them then and I have yet to receive it. I am waiting for the papers from the AG and I'm going to contact the BBB and FTC this week. I am hoping that if they see I'm serious and start getting papers from these agencies that they will go away. Thanks for your advice!

Well asking for DV over the phone doesn't work, laws state it needs to be in writing and besides, when you send it by letter certified mail return receipt, you have proof that you sent the letter where with a phone call they can say you never asked for it.
