I defaulted on 8 cards last year and settled 5. Three still floating around. I did keep paying and am current on 2 credit cards which are closed. Will my credit score increase as time goes by? Or not because 3 cards still in collections?
Paying or not paying does not address the continued inclusion of the derogs on the account that were reported prior to settling the debt. Their impact will age slowly over time,
If three cards are now reporting collections, those are additional major derogs that dont age well. I would be more concerned about the unpaid collections further damaging your score, such as by legal action, than about the effect of the aging of the old derogs.

As you've settled 5 of your credit cards and paid them off, with time your credit score will also increase. However, you've mentioned that you've closed 2 of your credit cards. You haven't done the right thing. You should remember that closing down credit cards never raises your credit score.
