PG&E Charge-off
Date: Wed, 01/02/2008 - 15:11
I have a PG&E Chargeoff account that's listed as derogatory on my credit report with TransUnion. It was from 2002 when I was living in a house that my mom owned. When she passed away in 2002, my dad took over the property and to reinstate the power, he had to pay money to PG&E for what was delinquent. Would that be considered payment of this chargeoff and how do I go about finding out if it was paid? My dad, unfortunately, doesn't have how much he paid and when. Also, does anyone have the number to contact PG&E about delinquent/chargeoff accounts? I went to the directory but I'm unable to get past page 14.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi chels
Paying an old charge-off will not erase it from your credit report. So, inspite of the fact that your dad paid off the charged off account, the account will be still there, however it will be there as as an updated item. It will be there as "Paid Charge-Off," which, is still slightly better than a charge off. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) says that a charge-off, whether paid or unpaid will stay on your report for up to seven years. This time limit is based on the date when the debtor missed a payment and never again became current and not the date of the last activity.
Hope it was helpful
Take care
