My husband has a foreclosure on his account. We were trying to find out the date that the house went into foreclosure and I called the mortgage company. They indicated that they could not find my husband's account by the account number, his social security or the address of the location. They then told me to try their mitigation department. Same thing. They couldn't find his account by the 3 different methods (address, social or account #). I am tempted to dispute this on my husband's credit report. Any suggestions?

Sounds to me a very good opportunity to give your credit report a fresh new look. Pull out a report form the bureaus to see if the entry is still there or not. Then dispute it with the reporting agency. They will drop the entry if they can't validate it. According to the FCRA (fair credit reporting act)the bureau has only 30 days time to verify the account with the original creditor, and, if the creditor can't justify the account within this time frame, the entry then fall-off form your report automatically.

I disputed it online with Experian. Overnight they came back with a result of it being a valid claim of foreclosure. UGH! The mortgage company still can't find the information. I am going to call Experian and tell them that the mortgage company can't find it and ask how they verified it. Any other suggestions?
