Dispute lowers score?

I'm starting the process of trying to clean up my credit report. Per protocol, I'm starting out by disputing all of the negatives on my credit report.

I am monitoring my FICO score thru ScoreWatch on MyFico.com. I just received a notice that my score dropped nine points. The only change on my report is that I disputed a bunch of items yesterday.

Are they allowed to do this? They drop your score when all you're trying to do is correct wrong information?

No. This may either be A) the disputes you filed resulted in MORE negative information coming to light about your accounts, or B) a coincidence

We need more info - what is your score currently? Scorewatch should show the account which resulted in the lowered score when you go to updates. MyFICO doesn't just 'lower' or raise your score... they create one based on what the actual credit bureaus has one file for you. In this case it's probably Equifax since that is the default myfico bureau.

Your score didn't drop just because you disputed all the negatives on your credit report. I'm pretty sure that some new negative trade lines have entered into your credit report. This is why your score has dropped. Have you missed out a payment on a credit card? Check that whenever you can

In my opinion, it was a simple case of coincidence. Now, my real question is this: In an attempt to clean up your credit, why did you go on a disputing spree? Among all the negatives on your report, there must have been some which you knew you owed/were yours.

The ONLY change MyFico showed was the disputes. No new tradelines. No new accounts. No higher balances. No missed payments. It specifically shows the disputes as the only changed information.
