Who are where do I call to ensure that the account is closed?

I'd agree that you need to show us through more information. Anna has shown you the right way if it's a bank account that you're trying to close. A bank manager or the customer service people could guide you once you provide them with your banking information. On the other hand, if it's a credit card company like Chase, Discover or Providian you may simply call their CSR or send an email.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
Are you referring to a credit card account or bank account. If you want to close a credit card account, then the first step will be to contact the customer care representative of the company. Tell him you want to close the account. You should write down the date and time of your call. You should follow-up the call with a letter. Include all the important information in the letter (card number, contact details, etc). Mention in the letter that you have talked to the customer representative earlier and you wish to get the account closed by a certain date.

If you want to close a bank account, then go the bank first. Contact the bank branch manager. He will provide you with the forms that are required to be submitted for closing the account.
