You credit might take a hit if you enter a program as you might fall behind on payments or creditors might report it correctly, but once you are in a program you should see things SLOWLY change.

My creditors warned me that if I enter a program the accounts close & that's a negative on my report. Can't hurt me more than I've already hurt myself I figure.

That is true, however the longer you are in your program and payments are timely made I would think that would be a positive thing.
