I have disputed a few accounts with Experian. I have paid all of them but they are still showing ‘unpaid status.’ My questions: (a) How long it would take to update the account status? (b) How would I know that changes have been made? © Do I have to pay money for ordering a fresh copy of the credit report? I have ordered one free copy of Experian credit report

It will take around 30 to 45 days to update your account status. However, it depends on your creditors that how soon they are reporting the latest update to Experian. So, check after 45 days once. I hope, your account will be updated.
Lastly, you are entitled to get a free credit report once a year. After that, you have to pay for it.

Hi Sam,

Answering your questions one by one.

(a) How long it would take to update the account status?

Wait for 30 days. This is the minimum time limit.

(b) How would I know that changes have been made?

Order a copy of the credit report after 3 months. That would give them enough time to make the necessary changes on your credit report. As per the FCRA, they are required to investigate and give you a report. If they don't make the changes, you can request creditors to update the status of the account to paid. But, you can request creditors only when the account is paid off.

You don't have to pay money for ordering a fresh copy of the credit report. Since, you have disputed the listing on your credit report, so you can get a fresh copy of your credit report for free.
