I have a few debts that I have paid or settled. The debt collector reported the debts paid to 2/3 credit bureaus but not the 3rd (usually equifax). IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR

I know I could contact equifax and report these false reports but I am wondering if I have any rights to file suit.

The law that comes to mind is:

US Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, No. 00-15946, Nelson vs. Chase Manhattan

Since the debt collector failed to properly report the debt as paid / settled, this has cause damage to my equifax credit report. It created defamation towards my character and also created financial injury as I could have possibly been able to get a loan faster or have gotten an unsecured cc instead of secured etc..

Thoughts?

I really don't think it would be a good idea to try to file suit in this situation. Not all companies report to all three credit bureaus and from what I understand, sometimes credit bureaus can pick things up from other credit bureaus. They might not be responsible for it showing up on Equifax. And a law suit could take a very long time and take up a lot of your financial resources further damaging your credit in the meantime.

You really need to just break down and file a dispute to get it corrected. The sooner you do this the faster your credit score will increase.

I hope no offense was taken, that is just my thought.
