My DH had a medical bill that got turned over to a CA. The bill was completely paid off. After checking his credit report, DH noticed that the CA reported the account to all 3 bureaus. On report shows the account as attorney involvement, settled for less than full amount - derogatory (acutally is marked with derogator, never saw that before), another report shows it as settled for less than full amount, and another just says settled.

I called the CA and asked for details of the account, and they verified to me over the phone that the account had been paid in full, not settled for less than full balance. I advised them of the way the account was being reported by them to the bureaus and was told that DH would have to dispute it with the bureaus.

Ideally, I would like it removed, as it is hurting his credit score. Funny how it used to just be credit accounts that were reported on your file, but now it is everthing from utility accounts to medical bills, which aren't extensions of credit.

I did consult with Bud Hibbs, and he advised to dispute the account as not being my DH's. I saw that Cajun advises that this is a wasted dispute reason.

Some advice, please....

That's what I thought, but he claims that a co-worker of his was in the same boat and he contacted the hospital and got a paid letter and bureaus deleted. The account is showing as paid on the credit reports, that's not the issue. It is just showing as settled for less than full amount and or attorney involvement, which is totally untrue.

Thanks for the info.

Hopefully they will do that. I contacted the collection agency that reported it and they confirmed the paid in full status, but refused to correct the info with the bureaus.

It really brought his score down and it needs to come off, so hopefully this will work.

The other thing dragging him down is late payments. I don't know what to do about that. He had a store card that he used for about a year and then paid off and closed account. I guess he forgot about payment being due one month and was late with it, but that was the only time. So, the account shows as having 1 late payment. I don't know how to get that off.
