Where to start???

Anyway where do I start to get credit? I went to a loan place- that sat there and told me how bad paycheck loans were then wanted to charge me 200% interest needless to say I walked out without the loan, I can't see paying $56 a month for 5 months on a $135 loan just for something to be put on my credit, I'm a single mom and don't have that kind of money to throw away. I've applied for numerous credit cards just to be turned down for unsufficient credit. So where does one go to get credit when they're not credit worthy- my score is a 520 on all three bureaus. I pay my rent on time every month witch is $600 a month as well as my utilities but I don't make much money so I don't want to throw money away unnecessarily. Why don't mortgage companies look at real life vs that darn credit report...
I would suggest looking into a secured credit card program. Sure
I would suggest looking into a secured credit card program. Sure its like having to pay money just to spend your own the fees are usually reasonable and they usually report to all three credit bureaus. You definately did the right thing by staying away from those quick bad credit loan companies. The best thing for your credit is to have a good long standing credit account, not one that is paid off in 6 months.
Thankyou
that's just what I was thinking about doing, I'm glad you said that it's reassuring. My other option was a cell phone but again it would be an unnecessary bill being I don't need a cell phone.
It was bad as I was sitting at the loan counter there were 3 people there making collection calls that I had to sit and listen to- that was one of my first que's to walk out of the door, I should have started running when they asked me the phone numbers of all of my family members from here to tomarrow :), but man when she started giving me the numbers my jaw hit the floor
also...you might look into local finance companies in your area.
also...you might look into local finance companies in your area...when big companies turn them down for credit...many customers in past have brought me check from small local finance companies who are willing to look at whole picture not just the number.....also I had meeting with bank here in my state last week (not a small one) who told me to look forward to second chance financing that they will be offering very soon..actually looking into job history...situation ...payments etc....not credit score as only means of turning down..said they made money in last years of turmoil because their bank was more cautious and didn't jump into all the easy money and fast loans that many institutions are scrambling to recoup from these days..there is hope on the horizon I think but I feel it will be at least in 2009 when the noose loosens up a bit
