Question about credit reporting....
Date: Tue, 09/11/2007 - 10:42
Hello ~
I've taken a big step in really taking control of my finances...since after all this time...they were really controlling me.
I've printed copies of my credit reports from all three bureaus. My question is in regards to accounts that are turned over the collections. More specifically...my student loans.
Each check issued per semester was given a different account number so therefore it shows up on my credit report as a whole list of different accounts. I've consolidated these loans and am currently working with GC Services with one monthly payment and have been doing so without fail for the last six months. Each loan account shows up as it orginally did when the loan was issued...so it's listed as CALS $xxx.xx...and the status says it's in collections. Then there is another listing through the collection agency...which has the consolidated amount on there. Would all of those original entries be duplicates since the actual amount is listed by another company in consolidated form? As it stands now, it looks like I owe double.
I hope this question makes sense - I want my reports to be squeaky clean and don't want silly things hanging on there that will only hurt me!

Any debt can have two and sometimes three separate listings. One from original lender, one from consolidation lender, and one from collector. If you have not already done so,ask GC to enter the rehab program from the dept of education. This will remove the collection notations at completion of program. You may visit our student loan discussion board for more resources in this matter.
