I was checking my credit report yesterday and it showed I had a new address listed. I have not moved in over 9 years. I was wondering if this would lower my credit score. Any help appreciated

Dispute the address with the credit bureau. Since you have not provided this new address to the bureau, chances are someone else????????s information is listed on your credit copy. Or, even worse, someone is trying to open suspicious accounts under your name. Correct the mistakes in your credit copy as soon as possible, before it starts tarnishing your credit potential. Write to the reporting agency and ask them to have the information corrected. You should get a response with correct information and a free copy within few weeks. If not, give them a call.

Thanks, I just tried to dispute it online and I couldn't. I checked another credit report and they have about 6 incorrect addresses for me. Then I tried another credit bureau and it said I alreay had an account with them. I clicked on "forgot password" typed in my soc # and last name and it said my account was temporarily suspended from too many attempts. That was the first time I tried to get it online. hmmm

You definitely need to dispute those addresses ASAP - and get a copy of your report from the bureau that has your online account suspended right now. It sounds like either someone is attempting fraud or the bureau has gotten some things mixed up in your file. Better tend to it now than wait for it to get worse.

Hi Rochelle

Your residential address is your personal identifying information. If your credit report contains false personal identifying information, then you must immediately notify the credit bureau in writing. Make a copy of your credit report and properly circle the address given there. Enclose copies of documents to validate your position. DO NOT send original copies. Send your letter by certified mail with a return receipt requested. Please send the letter ASAP.
