Will it affect my credit score if the person I'm married to has defaulted in one loan but it's not a joint one?

No. It shouldn't affect your credit score. Why should it affect your credit score? It's not joint debt. However, there is one factor that you should beware of. If you live in a community property state, then you'll be responsible for the debt if it was incurred after marriage.

Irrespective of whether your spouse incurred the debt before or after marriage, discuss and plan a budget to solve it. Ultimately, both of you have to work together for a better financial future.
