Medical bills dilema...
Date: Thu, 07/26/2007 - 06:28
Long story short, in 2000 she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease and had lots of medical that continues on today... When turning 18 she decided she didnt' wanna live here anymore so we told her, we'd pay her insurance premiums but she'd have to pay her medical bills, for cat scans and yearly exams! Then in Oct 2006 she had a baby, and was given lots of demoral during labor, when baby was born she had a high level of demoral in her system so they put her PICU!
Ok, now here goes the medical part.... She has a CA acct from 2004 for a little over 1,000 and another from 2005 for $190....
Now fastforward to Oct 2006, not sure why but she hasn't paid any of her bills from the baby and now they've turned her over on about 4 diff accts. One is for 20 something dollars! Not sure why in the world she didn't just pay it but she didn't!
She's gathering all her CA's today and bringing them over so we can start working on clearing these up! Its gonna be a job.... (maybe i should start charging) ha ha
I know the old ones are gonna be easier to work with and either have them removed or make settlement offers but now for the newer ones... i told her we will make them validate the debt but she's gonna have to make a payment plan with them and start paying this monthly! Am i correct here?
Sorry so long, just need some advice on how to start getting this off her credit report! Some supposedly financial advisor told her NOT to pay the older ones since they will off her report in the next few years. I totally disagree with this! I think she needs to pay them and i know they will settle for a lesser amount since i just did this for another daughter!
ANy advice would be greatly appreaciated!
Sorry so long,

Ang- I think you are on the right track. I would try to see if the older ones would either settle, or make a low payment plan. The more current ones, I would call and see what you can work out with them. Just waiting for it to fall off won't be good, you don't want the calls, hassel or a judgement! Alot of times, they will work with you. My youngest son was in and out of hospitals from the time he was born until Jr. High-so we paid on medical for years! Good Luck!!..KAren

We've also had our fair share of medical bills and i told her this morning that this NO way u sud allow medcial to go to collections! I mean u can send them 5 bux a month! And especially one for 20 bux! I think kids are put here to torture us! ha ha
Well as soon as she brings me over all the information i'm gonna show HER how to do it! :D
And let her get started on the letters first and foremost!
Also, after we get this rolling and on schedule i'd like her to get a pre-paid credit card that reports to the bureaus... i know i've read that here... but we've got a ways to go before that so when they time comes i'll post for that info!
Thanks for the help Karen,
