I am trying to repair my credit and was wondering about the items I can dispute to get removed. I have several medical bills listed in my credit report and some are with collection agencies as well. I was thinking of disputing these items on my credit report as I think that listing of medical bills on your report is a violation of HIPAA. Can I argue successfully on this line?

Any advice?

According to my knowledge, The HIPAA or Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy rule states that a bill collector or someone from physician office or hospital, should limit the disclosed info to the minimum and keep the details of the debtor confidential.

Do you have any unpaid medical bills? If you are certain about the inaccuracies then you may dispute?

There is a method to get rid of these accounts. You pay the OC directly with a restricted endorsement (means that ONLY the OC can cash the check, it can't get passed off to the CA). Once that check is cashed then you write a letter to the CA and inform them that since the account is now paid, they have no business relationship with you at all and that reporting the account is in violation of HIPPA laws.

You must not contact the CA at all prior to paying the CA...otherwise that could establish a business relationship.

Basically CA's can report medical debts because while they are collection upon an unpaid debt, they do have a business relationship with you. But once you take that key factor out, they lose all protections.
