I live in MI, I have a satisfied judgment on my credit report that was filed November 21, 2002. I paid the debt in 2005, how long can this remain on my credit report? In November of this year it will be legally be on my credit report for 7 yrs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is incorrect--the debt can stay on your credit report a grand total of 7 1/2 years from date of first delinquency, not date of last payment.

In the case of a judgment, that can stay on for 7 years from the date of the judgment. It doesnt matter when you make a payment in that case. On an account that's still open, such as a credit card you still use, the payment only changes the dates for reporting if it fully pays off the delinquent amount, and a new past due balance occurs later on.

Newb, I have noticed quite a bit of bad info in your posts around here--please verify your info before you post it, we dont want to mislead anyone here with bad info.

True if one reads and follows the law to the exact letter, but that last 6 months is the courtesy time given to take it off. While 6 months *MIGHT* have been needed say pre-1990 due to the way the systems ran, but in today's touch a couple buttons world while everything runs in real time, it's not necessary.

The very month it hits 7 yrs and should it still be there due to the CA/OC trying to milk the system--Disputing it as being past SOL works wonders. I've removed 3 from 2002 that way so far. :)
