Yes. Write a letter to the CRAs where it is showing up and ask for the account to be deleted as obsolete. If it shows back up after that, the CRA can be held liable. By law a regular debt can't report for more then 7.5 years and once removed, the CRA can't allow it to be reinserted.
The time span for negative info to be on your credit report star
The time span for negative info to be on your credit report starts from the time you were late for the first time or from the date the account went into collections. Even after closing also the negative listing will appear in your CR and mostly it stays for 7.5 years.
But, you can write a letter to the credit bureaus for removing the inaccurate info from the report. You can check out the following sample letter

They're not re-filing it. They're updating their Tradeline monthly as they are allowed. This can be reported for 7.5 years from the Date of First Default with the OC. When did the account initially go delinquent? If it has been 7.5 years since the DOFD, then dispute as obsolete. If Midland verifies and you have proof, sue them.

You're almost right. Reporting of derogatory information begins when the account goes 30 days past due and is never brought back to a current status. Not "late for the first time or when it goes into collections".
