Reporting multiple times

I have pulled up my credit report for all 3 companies and have found the same thing being reported multiple times. I had a store card in 2004 and have seen it brought up 6 times on my report, shouldn't it only be once since I only had 1 card?

Normally, the item should be reported once as you have only 1 store card. However, if your store card account was sold off to a collection agency, then it might be reported twice or thrice in your credit report.

Anna has rightly pointed out what seems to be a certain possibility in your case.
Just as she mentioned, if it appears three times, then the last time it got reported is probably the latest active collection account, and the ones prior to this are reported as 'sold' or 'transferred'.

What was reported multiple times? The account opening itself, or individual items under the account? Once an item is reported, the resulting status of the account can be repeated monthly. That is proper. It is not duplicate information, it is just continuance of the same information.
Can you specify what the reporting was?
