Need some advice. In 2007, my debit card was stolen and my bank account was emptied. I had overdraft...so when I closed my account, it was negative $800. I got together with the bank and the police and everything was dealt with.

I looked on my credit report this year...and there is a negative hit on my account for the supposed $800 that was owed to that account. It wasn't directly from the bank, but a debt recovery service the bank probably uses.

I don't have a bank account with them since then and don't have any paper work from the event. At least I don't think I do b/c it happened a long time ago. They actually caught the guy who stole it and prosecuted him.

Why after all that I went through with the bank to bring my account to $0 before closing and all the paperwork I gave them from the police...could it still slip through and get sent to a collection agency?

Should I talk to the bank or the collection agency that is posted on my Credit Report?

I just don't get it.

talk with the bank as they are the ones that either assigned or sold the debt.bring all the papers on the incident.they probably forgot about the particulars here.you don't owe this.the bank should help you here no matter how long ago.
