About a year ago or maybe a little bit longer than that, I asked if the collection agency handling my account if they did settlements for reduced amounts, and they said they didn't. I have two medical accounts with them, and I have the funds to pay off the smaller one right now. I am wondering though if it is worth sending them a paid for delete letter when they even rejected the idea of settlements for the other account.

What happens if they reject the offer of taking it off my credit report and removing the negative remarks? I would like to pay it off but having a paid collection account isn't that great.

Also, my second question related to this: is there a way to send a letter to remove paid collection accounts from my credit report. I never knew a couple of years ago these letters/request even existed, so now I am trying to see if it possible to remove paid collection accounts that have been taken care of from a couple of years back.

I have had split results. One company, luckily the one holding 4 of my accounts, did it gladly. They came off by the end of the month after receipt of a cashiers check for the FULL amount. That part they were quite firm on, it had to be the full amount owed (plus interest). The whole process was quite quick since I called and spoke with the woman handling my account and faxed her the letter which she faxed back. The other was firm in that they would not accept a pay for delete. Hopefully, your accounts are with an agreeable company.
