I sent a letter to an original creditor about a negative listing on my credit report. I sent it over 30 days ago, and have the confirmation of delivery. I know that if within 30 days they dont validate the debt and send me proof the account was valid then it is suppose to be removed from my credit report. How do i get it removed? Do i contact the original creditor back and demand it removed, or the credit bureaus and send them the proof of my investigation and let them know it wasnt validated in 30 days?

Hi!
Welcome to the Forums!

Original creditors are not required to validate the debt. If you think that an inaccurate information has been reported on your credit report, then you should dispute the account status with the credit bureaus. You can send the following letter to the credit bureau for disputing the account status:

You can send the proof of your investigation along with your letter.

problem with sending them proof is this account isnt valid. I have no proof. I was 18 at the time and they said i had a mortgage. I have never had a mortgage and i didnt even have any credit at that time. I have disputed it with the credit bureaus and it came back verified. I sent the original creditor a letter of investigation. Because i was told if i sent them a letter to investigate and if they didnt respond saying it was a valid account in 30 days it was to be removed from my credit report.
