Will the old debt of 7.5 years be automatically removed or do I have to do something in the affirmative to make it happen; like write a letter to all three credit agencies?

Normally, an old debt listed in your credit report stays there for seven years and 180 days from the date of your last delinquency after which it automatically gets removed from your report. If you find the debt still listed in your report, you can dispute it with the credit bureaus. The bureaus will verify it and remove it from your report.
