What is the SOL in your state? Since the debt is already six years old, it might have passed the Sol, and any payment towards it might renew the statute of limitation. Also any negative entry is likely to drop off the credit report after 7 1/2 years.

I have a question. I got a silly traffic ticket for $130 in Canada at 19 years of age in November of 2003. I probably paid it off in full in early February of 2004. Unfortunately, since I am an American citizen and was late a couple months the City of Windsor, Canada reported me to collections faster than a bat out of hell!!! Incredible! It was only a minor traffic infraction. They could have at least called or sent a warning letter first!
Anyways, I was 19 at the time and never even bothered to check my credit report until 2007. I was shocked to find it on there! I called the collection agency involved on the matter and after a few phone calls to the City of Windsor they were finally able to prove to the collection agency that I paid it off in early '04.
So this collection agency said they would update their files and send it to the bureaus.
Well, I cannot recall if back in '07 this collection appeared on all 3 bureaus but right now it is on Experian but not on TransUnion/Equifax. I am pretty sure Transunion/Equifax both removed the collection sometime early '08 but it remains on Experian.
Experian has my score at 668
TransUnion 713
Equifax 692
So the collection says date opened 11/2003 and then says date reported 10/4/2007.
What is the difference between the two? I hope that they do not believe that I was reported to collections on 10/4/2007 because this was actually around time I cleared the collection.
Please explain date opened and date reported.
Thanks!

Technically the 'date opened' is when the account was opened with the lender. In your case, the date you got the ticket.
Date reported reflects the latest date of activity on the account.

You should have asked (you still can) the City of Windsor to send you a paid in full letter and then send a copy of it to Experian with a dispute of the tradeline and a request to delete it.
