I'm new and totally screwed. It's not that I can't pay back the debts, but i'd like to do it in the best way possible to repair my credit report. Anyone care to let me harass them with questions for a bit?

I have a victoria secret account that I fell behind on and totally forgot about since i haven't received anything from them. After going over my credit report I see they marked it as charged off and gave it to Asset Acceptance- who also added on some nice charges. What is my best course of action? I see many of you referred to debt validations, and also a payment for deletion. Any opinions? If I can get this off my credit report altogether, that would be my best result. The account is several years old and I believe past the statute of limitations, but i'm not trying to skip out on the money by any means- I just want to fix my credit report.

A Credit account will continue to accrue interest plus I believe some late charges even after it has been charged off. Yes I would send a DV letter to Asset Acceptance and make sure that you send it USPS read receipt required.
When was the last payment made and what State do you live in?
Someone with more knowledge than I will be along soon

the last payment was marked 2/2005 and the Statute of Limitations is 3 years. So i guess i'm good in terms of getting sued, but i'll send the letter out today and see what happens. From there should I send them a letter for payment on deletion? Can I get them to delete the original creditor as well? How does that work?

Don????????t send any payment offers until you are sure they own the debt. Do not even speak to them until you receive it. I????????m not sure what you can have done with you credit report. I don????????t think it will be removed but you may be able to ask for a Paid in Full to be issued. Let????????s see if someone else can help you with that

I'm in the process of disputing some credit items, which have been on my credit for longer than the 'fall off' date says. It seems like it takes SOO long to get your CR 'fixed'.

yea sdchargers disputing credit report entries is a really lengthy process.....but do not lose hope......everything will be fine. One of my friends had to send so many dispute letters to the bureau....she was kinda frustrated with the whole process as the bureau was not responding to the letters. So, she decided to hire an attorney to write letters for her n it worked too.
