Question about pay for delete

Ok I have an original debt from Capital One for $990. It has been sold off to a collector for $1052. I want to do pay for delete. My question is if the collection agency accepts, will both entries on my credit report be deleted? I have an entry from capital one for $990 that says its been charged off and sent to another lender. The other entry is from the collection agency for $1052. I just need to know if both entries would be deleted if they accepted, and if only the entry from the collection agency is removed, why would anyone ever bother with pay for delete letters.
