Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. Heres the story, I had an oral surgery bill that I was not aware of. Years later I had to get an extraction and was refered to the same place. They said I owed a past due amount and needed to pay it immediately before they would give me an appointment, so of course, since I did owe it I paid it.

Now after reviewing my credit report, I see there is a Collection Agency reporting this account, as either "Payment After Charge Off/Collection" or on other reports as paid.

My credit score stinks because of this and its hurting my changes on the job market and in getting a home loan.

How do I get this entry removed from my credit report? Who do I write to (the original Creditor which is the oral surgery place, or the collection agency, what kind of a letter do I write, or should I call someone) Please help!

I have disputed this through the credit bueriu itself, it is still being investigated, but I have a feeling it will not be deleted.

Any advice?

I am disputing it because I never received a bill from either collections or the original creditor. This is the first time I have ever seen this collection agency's name is when i looked at the report. I don't know if they will accept this as a valid reason for a dispute (although it seems unfair to be held accountable for a debt you were never notified of)

What I am really concerned with, is if there are any suggestions or advice on how I can get this entry to change or delete this from my credit report. I belive "Payment After Charge Off/Collection" is probably pretty hurtful to my score.

Since you have had no prior contact with the collection agency, and this account is already paid, send the Dr. Office a HIPAA letter stating that since this debt is paid there is no business relationship with you and this collection agency is acting illegally. They will try to get the CA to remove the account since a HIPAA complaint is very bad for them...

If it stays, then file a HIPAA complaint against the dentist.
