I get the basic understanding of how pay to delete letters work. If the collection agency agreed to do this, how can I get the original mark off of my credit report. For example, I have a $1000 debt with chase, they charge it off and sell it to collection agency A. Collection agency A agrees to delete if I pay, but the original mark with Chase still exists. Is there any way to get the negative mark from Chase off. I have tried searching and can't find much information about this, thats why I am asking. Thanks a lot to anyone who can help. I just started a job and hope to pay off some debts and get these negative marks off my credit report.

Well I do have a bank account with chase so technically am still a customer. So basically my only option would be to just ask them out of good will to remove it? Doesn't seem like they would go out of their way to help anyone for nothing. I have had luck writing to the CEO after getting slapped with 10 overdraft fees for one item that made my account go negative, so maybe I could try that? What is the point of pay to delete letters then? To remove as many negative items as possible, even though the original will still be there?
