Yes, if they have purchased the debt from the original creditor and if the Statute of Limitation on the debt has not yet expired, they can sue you for it. Have you asked for debt validation from them yet?

When I asked them for debt verification they refused to provide it. They stated that they sent it to an old address(my parents' house), but it never arrived there. I told them my new address on several occasions and then when it told them to send me info about payments they sent a letter that arrived within 2 days. The debt was not verified, just had an amount with no itemization of where that amount came from. I cancelled the debit card they were going to use after reading everything about them.
