I am in the process of purchasing a home and on the credit report it shows a judgment was issued against me in December of 06. It was issued in the state of Kansas. The problem is I had moved to Florida in June of 06 and never received notification of the court date. In order to close on my house, I have to show this judgment as settled but am wondering what happens when I call PORTFOLIO RECOVERY ASSOCIATES LLC. What do I need to ask them for in order to payoff this debt? Can they collect interest on the judgment? I think if I had more time I would have a case to have the judgment overturned but I am scheduled to close March 30th. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your credit report mentions a judgment, then you'll have to pay off the dues in order to get a mortgage for purchasing a property. Portfolio Recovery Associates LLC can charge interest on the judgment. You should contact them and try to consolidate the debt with them and pay it off. The sooner you consolidate the debts and start paying it off, the better it will be for you.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
You are in a dire situation. You'll have to pay off the judgment. Contact the Portfolio Recovery and inform that you would like to settle the debts. Negotiate a settlement on the total debt amount. If you are not able to settle the debts on your own, then you can get help from a professional debt settlement company. Once the judgement is paid, ask them to update your account status as "paid judgment" on your credit report.

I received a summons for a debt that apparently was accrued while I was in college. When I got the summons I assumed that my roommate had possibly stolen my credit card (along with other things) but I have no record of the account.
I can't find anything with that account number listed on it. According to the summons from LVNV, the debt is originally with Citibank but it is not listed on my credit report. First, I called Citibank to ask about the account with the number they listed and they said they have no record of it. When I asked for a validation from LVNV back in December, they just sent me a copy of what they had already sent me. It's just a printout that shows what I owe them and that the account was originally opened with Citibank in 2004.
I know I need to show up for the court date but what do I do if I have no proof that this account with my full name associated with it never belonged to me?
LVNV shows up on my credit report but Citibank does not nor did it show up in 2008 when I purchased my home. Wouldn't that Citibank account be on my credit report in 2008 if the account was opened in 2004? It also shows that Weltman, Weinburg, Reis reviewed my credit history last year for collection purposes. I'm so confused!
