JDB has to have your account from the original creditor before they enter any negative remark in your credit report. They have the rights to report in your file before the seven years expire from the date of first delinquency. Nothing can be done after the account is removed from your credit report.
Keep a check on your credit report. If you find JDB reporting, call them and get the debt validated. There must be genuine reasons for them to report in your credit copy.
Like Ashley said above, a latest payment can re-insert the already removed item from your credit file.

JDB cannot extend the date of reporting from the date they purchased your account. The negative item is to be in your credit from the date of first delinquency only. They can put the date when they got your account but they cannot use it for extending the reporting in your file.
Anything you find suspicious done by the company should be immediately disputed with the credit bureau reporting it. They should get the correct details of reporting. If your dispute is found correct, the report is to be updated with correct information.
