First off read the Fcra in my signature. It is the second link. For accounts that are not yours use the id theft route which can found at ftc.gov. For the accounts that are yours you will need to post the details here minus any account numbers so we can see what is wrong & how you would tackle it.

Here is an example of what I'm still trying to tackle; I had a Nextel cell phone. I terminated service with them after my contract was up. They said it wasn't up but no one could, or would, tell me how it was re-newed. I sent my original contract along with a copy of my last bill to the credit bureau stating I didn't owe the $217 they said and I've asked to have it validated. The credit bureau said they couldn't use the info and the debt had been validated. There is nothing that could have been validated as I never extended the contract, I had the final bill, etc. The only thing I didn't have, but believe me, I'm still looking because I throw nothing away, is the check where I paid it in 2002.
I posted your quick message in your topic to keep everything on track.

You will need to force Nextel to validate this under the Facta amendment of the fcra.Looking at your credit report is it reporting the balance as them or does it say transferred/sold?

The CA is afni but the report has "orignal creditor" Nextel. When I wrote the credit bureau I brought it to their attention that it appeared the account had been reaged, because it has "date opened" as July 2006. By sending them the original contract indicating it was opened 11/26/01, I would have thought that documented re-aging, they disagreed.

Date opened is not proof of reaging. You wany to find date of first delinquency for the original creditor & compare it to collector's dofd.

Not sure if I can find that because Nextel never put it on a credit report. However, my final bill was due by March 10, 2004. It says on my credit report that this will stay on until Jan 2011. Would I go back to Nextel and ask for validation or continue with afni. I've asked them and they sent me a generic letter providng me with my name, address, how much was owed and the original creditor. I already knew all of that.

I have gone back and looked and found where I sent afni a dispute letter 9/23/06. Different CA same issue though; I paid a medical bill in 5/06. It has been reported as unpaid and KD, which means deragatory, since 4/06. I didn't get a copy of my credit report until 10/07, saw it on there and sent a copy of my check to the credit bureau. They wouldn't update or remove it. It took a couple of months for me to locate the CA because they had not contacted me and in March 08, they marked it paid. Since it had been paid the entire time it was marked unpaid and deragatory, shouldn't the credit bureau be responsible for updating the information for those 2 years?
How do the accounts look on your credit report for both of them
How do the accounts look on your credit report for both of them & when was last time you had any contact with the collection agency? Lastly what is your state of residence?

I have not had contact with afni since the dispute letter in 2006. I did contact the CA for the doctor bill and faxed them a copy of my cancelled check. That is why in March 08 they put OK instead of KB for that month and marked it paid. Again, they could see that they had marked it incorrectly for 1 1/2 years but didn't correct it either.
On my credit report AFNI has "Seriously past due date / assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department
Comments: Account in dispute-reported by subscriber" They also have "KB" for March 08 and "ND" for 6 months prior to that.
On the other, that I paid, they have "Paid, was a collection account, insurance claim or government claim or was terminated for default
Comments: Account in dispute-reported by subscriber"
They have 22 months of KB and an OK for Mar 08. However, this was paid for 21 months they were reporting it negatively.
I am in Ohio.

I started disputing both of these with Experian in October 2007, when I received a copy of my credit report and saw them. They would not budge on either of them stating they were validated.
