removing charge-offs from credit that are paid?

I am married and finally have 2 incomes and am working on fixing my bad credit i ran up while in college and while trying to live on my own! :/ I was finally able to pay a charged-off credit card account a few months ago. I asked the collection company if they could remove it- before I knew to do this in writing I just asked them over the phone. They of course said they can't do that. Is there any way to get this removed at all? It says "Paid after charge-off" on my reports, which I know looks better but still not that great. My husband and I just got denied for a second car, with the comment "my score wasn't good enough to even be considered" ouch. So, I am DETERMINED to get anything off my report that I can! Should I even try to go to the bureau themselves to try and get it removed? ANYTHING I can do? I LOVE this forum by the way, everyone is sooo helpful!

Sadly, it will stay on your report, seven years from when it was posted. This can be a pain in the butt. However, there are plentyu of in-house financing car dealers, and most understand this plight.

I agree with Anthony.... and shop around for the car loans. Many places will take bad credit these days.

Well there always a chance that if u dispute it with the bureaus they will not respond! Sometimes when u pay off a debt they don't bother with disputes... Can always give it a try... Worse that can happen is it will stay on.
Good Luck,

Removing a paid charge off is difficult, but there are two avenues to explore. One is a goodwill letter asking creditor to forgive the negative reporting by either deleting the account or recoding it to a positive acoount. The second way is by disputing and following the law (Fcra) very closely and making creditor remove if they cannot back up their account.

Hi,'Fatgirl'. I want to let you know about a finance comapny who REALLY helped me out, when I needed another vehicle. And my Credit Score was about 560!! Citifinacial.......they DO deal with bad credit. At pretty good payments, too! A bit higher % ( about %18), but, since I've made prompt payments, my % rate went down!! i don't know if you have 'access' to one, but, if you do, I would look into it.
