It could. It depends on what type of work you're asking for and what type of negative marks you have. For instance, if you have any type of "fraud" alerts on your account, getting a job in finance or banking would be out of the question.

A potential employer can ask you to consent to a pull of your credit report as part of the hiring process.Such requests are normally made when the job involves feduciary or financial management, or the job requires national security implications or a security clearance.
As a former manager in the fedral sector, I was involved in many hiring decisions.
Federal jobs, for example, all have a "sensitivity level" associated with them. Those jobs requiring financial resonsibilites have an associated level of sensitivity depending, primarily, on your supervisory of management level. These will often requrie both a criminal records check and a financial responsibilty investigation, including a pull of your credit report. If the job requires a national security clearance, a financial investigation is a given. Level of investigation depends upon the job senstivity level.
So, it usually depends on the nature of the job.
The big no-nos on a credit report for emploment puposes are usually unpaid debt and legal judgments.
