can someone please tell me what is a fico score and how that differs from trans union, experian, equifax scores? which one is used for credit to buy a home, car, ect?

Your fico score is actually your experian score. It's not seperate. I believe it's commonly used as slang when referring to a credit score.

When buying a home....The middle of the 3 scores is used.

Example:

600 - Trans Union
548 - Experian
612 - Equifax

Your middle score is 600. So the 600 credit score is what would be used in qualifying to purchase a house.

....just an FYI...you actually need a 620 middle score to purchase a house.

Now when it comes to cars...it varies on the lender. Some lenders will only pull through one credit bureau....some pull all. It really depends on who your getting financed through. If your going through a car dealership then they can help you with this.

I hope this helps.
