My friend Lisa wants to increase her credit score before taking out a mortgage loan. She wants to take out a loan in next 9-12 months. Is it possible to raise the score by 50 points by that time, from 680 to 730? How long does it normally take to increase score?

Unfortunately, no one can predict how soon a credit score will go up or by how much. If you’re friend is already started working to improve her credit score, the outcome may take up to several weeks to appear on her credit report.

But she must remember that even after the credit report is updated with positive information, there’s no guarantee that her credit score will increase immediately or that it will increase enough to give a boost to her mortgage application. Her credit score may even remain the same or may go down.

There is no guarantee. There is no straight answer. If she is lucky and take all the right steps, then her credit score can increase by 50 points within a month. If her present credit score is 680, then she can try for FHA mortgage. The eligibility criterion is 580 credit score.

To increase the credit score, she needs to maintain her credit cards properly. Tell her to repay the bill in full and within time. Also, staying within the credit limit is important. Are you sure, you friends' credit report is error-free?
