Why is actual credit score different than what true credit reports? I applied for credit and the company who did a credit check showed me my scores. They were higher than what true credit reports them to be.

There are actually at least 20 different scoring models out there; each one yields different results. The FICO Classic is the one that you commonly hear about and associate with the term "credit score." But in reality, a lot of places don't even use the FICO Classic.

One of the scores my company uses, for example, is the FICO Auto score (since we mostly deal in auto loans). This score factors less on credit cards, per se, and puts more weight on your previous car loans. There's mortgage scores, subprime scores, bankrupctcy risk models, etc, etc, etc.

So the discrepancy between True Credit versus what your lender showed you, is probably due to the fact that they use different scoring models.
