Collections listed on my credit report

I recently just got a copy of my credit report. It is not good. During the last nine years I have gone through a divorce and two bouts of cancer so lots of late payments. I have several items that show as collections. Some of them date back to 2002 but they reported again in 2/09. I understand things should come off after 7 years but what happens when they report again 7 years later? Does it start the SOL all over again? I was hoping I could get some relief from these things this year since it had been 7 years but it does not look like that is happening.

They have 7 years plus 180 days to report from the date of the last payment made on the account. Send in a dispute on anything reaching this aging point. I recently found a collection agency reporting a medical debt from 1997 on my report.
