Recently had a credit report ran on me and was denied housing based upon my credit report...I received a -35 RG from Capitol One. I have been making payments to Suttell & Hammer P.S. since 07/14/2009. When I contacted Suttell & Hammer they informed me that they do not report to Credit Bureaus. When I contacted Capitol One they were unable to pull up my information. They in turn gave me another number to call and the lady who answered rudely told me to call Suttell & Hammer. Is it true that my credit report will not reflect any payments until the debt is paid in full? Can I contact anyone regarding my credit report at least showing that I have paid $4,100.00 toward the debt? If anyone can assist me I would greatly apprecitate it!

It depends upon who now owns the debt,
If the OC sold the debt to the debt collector, then the OC was required to already have updated the balance on their account to $0. So the OC account would show $0 debt balance. Since the debt collector does not report to a CRA, your CR would show $0 reported debt. All debt is not always visible within the four corners of your CR,
However, if the OC still owns the debt, and the debt collector is just their assigned collection agent, then the OC usually wont update until advised by the debt collector that the debt is paid. Then the OC balance would have to be updated to $0. Payments to the debt collector, since they dont report, would not be reflected in any collection reporting.

Technically, you could assert that the OC is required to maintain the accuracy of their reporting, and as such, if they still own the debt and have a reported amount due, they should be updating to maintain its accuracy. For practical reasons, most OCs dont monitor daily activities of their assigned debt collector until the debt is paid. If you want to assert that accuracy of their continued reporting demands such updating, you can file a direct dispute with the OC, challenging the accuracy of their reporting. Give it a shot.
