Capital One bad report

I had a Capital One credit card and stopped paying in 06 for some stupid reason. I decided a few months ago to clean my credit up and pulled my report. I contacted capital One to pay off and was referred to some law firm/collection agent. I had no intention of negotiating the debt and asked what I owed and promptly paid it. My credit report now reads that I paid in settlement. I have called Capital One and just get the run around. The collection agency says they are out of it and that Capital One is the one putting it on my credit report. I just want to get what is correct on my report. What are my options? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
Do you have proof that you paid it in full? A matching pay off
Do you have proof that you paid it in full? A matching pay off letter and copy of a check/money order?
A paid settlement and paid in full collection account really mean the same. One is no different from the other.
