Hey guys,

Im a new user to the forums and Ive been getting ready to start my first round of validation. Im really confused on one subject though. Do I need to send the validation requests to the CA or the reporting agency. I have not added to my credit in 4 years. Ive been strictly cash only. For this reason I havent heard from any debt collectors in a long long time. I want to try and get these pulled off my report. I have the letters and my credit report but who do I need to send these letters to. Do I have to send them to the CA first and then the reporting agency, or do I skip the CA and go straight to the reporting agency. My debt is under 4k.

I will hit SOL on all of them in 2012. I was going to send debt validation letters to the collectors however I am outside of the initial 30 days. Can I send a letter to the credit bureau requesting proof that I own the debt listed and a copy of my signature and that if they cant provide it they remove it? I thought that was how this works. Im really confused on this and I have been swimming through forums for a minute trying to figure it all out.

I have been in contact with a guy that says he can dispute the reports with the CRA's and possibly have them dropped off if they cant be properly verified. He said that the ones that dont get verified he would then do a second round or possibly a third round. He claims to be able to increase my score by 100's in few months. Is this possible? If so cant I do the letters myself? How would I do it? And am I just being played.

You are correct that the CA is not legally required to validate after 30 days past your initial notice of the collection attempt. But, you still may have success by sending the validation request to the CA's. Then, when they fail to respond or properly validate, send letters to the bureaus enclosing proof of delivery of the validation letters. Request that the bureaus delete the items based on the CA's failure to validate. Other than guessing based on the date the collection was reported to the bureau, the bureau has no way of knowing that your validation requests were sent past 30 days from the CA's first notice to you. Good luck.
