Charge-offs are injurious to your credit. According to me, you should contact the original creditor, as they are the ones who reports a charged off account to the credit bureaus. You can convince the creditor to remove the charge-off status from your report in lieu of payment. But, before taking any initiative, make sure that have an affordable payment plan to convey.
Companies or the parties responsible are mostly private companies and not associated with the federal government and they are contractually bound to report to the bureaus, so it may not be so easy to remove the charge-off.
You can go ahead for a pay for delete agreement, if your creditor agrees and always get things in black and white to avoid any kind of litigation.

The charged offs can't be removed from your report before seven and a half years, the usual time period for which a negative item would stay on your report. If you haven't yet tried to settle the charged off account, you may consider paying it off at your earliest. It would help you improve your score.
