I've looked at all sorts of forums and most of the time I get advice that doesn't help...mainly things like 'you should pay your debts' ....well my debts are paid, except for student and car loans that I am current on. But I have past things in collections on there. Everyone always tells me i can get them removed, but i've had no luck. I feel incredibly shackled here, like i can't do anything. it's a neverending rut. And with new laws, i hear credit cards are even harder to get. I'm just really discouraged about my future. I don't know how i'll ever be able to get married or really do anything.

I'm just looking for some real advice, or if there are personal experiences, or anything like that. If someone would rather have me email them thats fine. I can log in here, but for some reason when I go to post it automatically logs me out, so not sure whats going on there...but i am able to email your user name. Please, anything will help

You can do your own credit repair, but honestly it takes A LOT of research and reading...reading...and more reading! Once you know the laws inside and out then begins a lot of writing. :)

Basically the way it works is that you go over your credit reports and find errors (there can be many). You go through a disputing process with both the credit reporting agency and the debt collector who put the info on your report.

If things get fixed and/or validated then it goes into settlement stage where you have other options such as pay for deletes and the like. You want to try for a pay for delete above everything else because a 'settled' or 'paid' doesn't do much for your credit.

This is just a very bare bones example...as I said...research!
