I have stuff on my credit that has been there for 2 to 3 years and I don't know where to start. Will you please help me get started on how to improve my credit. I don't have all of my bills but I have some.

Welcome to debtcc forum! You may start the credit repair on your own. Find out all the outstanding accounts and call your creditors for payment arrangements. Try paying by cash or cheques until you have paid the balance in full. You may start on the account that has the lowest balance. Once they are paid off, the creditor will update your file with the bureaus and your scores will go up. Keep a check on your credit copy to see that the accounts are updated and the balance is coming down. You should also dispute any item if it is reported inaccurately. Cut down any unnecessary expenses and fix a realistic budget in the coming days. You will be on your way to a debt free life

I agree that one way to begin is to pay off the lowest balance first, as a small, or not-so-small victory in completing one payoff can encourage you in your efforts to improve your creidt score. Financially, however, it would make more sense to me to pay off the credit card or loan first that has the highest interest rate. In either case, taking a step to begin is the most improtant thing.

Pull a credit report from each bureau at www.annualcreditreport.com. Review all information for any errors and write creditor or collector listed for the latest standing on your accounts. Now with this information you can develop a plan to pay them off.If the debts are past due try to get them to agree in writing to delete the bad info on your credit reports for payment.By paying these accounts for deletion and slowly start adding new positive accounts, your scores will start to come up.
