Anyone had luck getting Verizon charge-offs removed?

My situation:
I owe Verizon $200 for an outstanding bill (service since discontinued; I am not a current customer). They have reported my debt as a charge-off to the credit reporting agencies, and are using Allied Interstate to collect the debt (who are saying that $150 would settle the debt.).
I can pay right away. However, I want to get the charge-off item taken off my report; a "charge-off but paid" is also not acceptable.
I spoke to Verizon billing directly, and they said they would not make any arrangement to have the negative item removed from my credit report, and that I had to pay Allied Interstate.
Question: Is there some way for me to have the negative Verizon item removed if I do pay Allied Interstate? I'm aware of the general credit dispute process, but has anyone had luck having Verizon items removed?

am sure the members of this site would come with their advice. As far as I know, since the account has been sold to Allied Interstate, Verizon has no obligations to close your account. You can ask Allied to mark the account as 'Paid' after the settlement and then, can contact the credit bureaus to close the other entry as well. But, a charge off can be their in your account for about 7 years.

Did you have any luck with removing the Verizon Charge off? I am having the same issue and with no luck at all. Just like you they are willing to mark it Paid off Charge off account, or something like that, which in my case is still not good.
Please let me know if you had any luck with them.
