Wamy/Chase card cancelled

Hi All,
I had a Washington Mutual card turned Chase - with a pretty low limit - about $2K. I dont have many credit cards because I had poor credit and was trying to build my credit history. I was current and havent had a late payment in as long as I can remember. (My credit report goes back 38 months and I've had the card since 5/06 - so I guess that means I've never had one). Anyway, I go to use my card the other day to find out it is declined at the store. I was sure this was mistake and called the company to find out they cancelled my card! Can they do this without notifying me? Also, is this going to adversely affect my credit? Is there anything I can do?

I meant to write that their explanation was that I had too low of a limit. Also, they told me to look at my credit report which I then explained to them I have some mistakes on there that are coming off within 60 days (per the lender).
