Welcome to the Comunity :D Are you talking about a debtor charged off your debt? If that is the case, they can still sell the balance owed to another debt collector.
When you pay a bill , do a settlement agreement, etc., always get something in writing that this will be considered paid in full.
Alot of junk debt buyers(JDB) will buy debts or parts of debts and try to collect. Also, remember that just because it is charged off doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't owed.
If this company contacts you, send them a debt validation letter to make sure they have the debt, and are suppossed to be able to collect. These junk debt buyers are also well know for trying to collect paid in full debts, debts that aren't' owed, etc.
