A collection agency can try to collect on a charged off debt because they usually have bought it for pennies on the dollar. They can even collect on it if it is past the SOL. The SOL is a defense but not necessarily a deterrent!

all right update.i did get a letter from erc on mon.
it outlined the debt in detail.i sent a payment proposal and a limited c&d.the proposal was for two payments.one of 300.00 on feb 27th.the balance was to be paid on mar 7th.i also faxed it to them.
got the receipt from the certified mail yesterday.
we will see what happens next.

I just got a call from "Domingo" from a (646) 383-1477 with a Caller ID name of "SASKATCHEWAN TE" of all things. whocalled.us listed numbers from this block as "NAVIGATA". A little Googling disclosed that Navigata is a Canadian Telecommunications Provider. This may explain the CID Name of SASKATCHEWAN, as the location of the call center, and not necessarily a CID Spoof. "Domingo" wasn't really too forthcoming with his business & I dispensed with him, posthaste. I always look at whocalled.us, then here as you guys really have all the 411! I'll be sure & post if I can get any more out of these bottom feeders! Good luck in your struggles, chums, and keep fighting the good fight!

I have better things to do than deal with these schnooks, so my Attorney is now handling & ready to go to the wall with them, as I have compiled quite the dossier of their campaign of harassment. Don't take it from these SOB's! FIGHT 'EM!
