Hello,

Is there a way to find out who currently owns your old debt ? It doesn't seem to appear on your credit report, or am I missing something ?

Thank You

Hello,

Again, thank you for your response. I'm having trouble trying to figure out the credit report I pulled (only one, I'll pull the other 2). The mortgage lender we are working with told us to do this (pay off the collections accounts), to try and raise our credit scores, my husband's in particular. I'm also paying down my credit cards to 30% and we've gotten my husband a "secured card". He's also an authorized user on 2 of my cards.

Do you know if any of this will help ?

Thank you

If it does not appear on your credit report then it should not be affecting your credit score so to speak. Did you pull reports from all 3 CRAs? Moreover, if the account is in collections, paying it would do nothing for your score.

How oldis the debt? Beyond 7 years would technically take it off your credit report. What was the nature of this debt? Which state do you reside in? How old is the debt? More information would help.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. The debt is from 2010, so it is still "valid". It is credit card debt. We are in Massachusetts. The debt is in my husband's name only. We're trying to qualify to buy our first home, so we need to get our credit scores up.

Thank you.
