I received a letter from Mechants Credit
Guide Company stating about a debt owed to
The original creditor
was Citibank. But I call them and they
don't have an account in my name. So
I called Merchant and asked for a debt validation...Did I do right?

Yes, you did the right thing. If Merchants Credit Guide has your file for collections, you need to see the details before working out a payment plan.

Have you sent the validation letter by certified mail with return receipt requested? It will be a proof of your actions in the later stage in case they claim that they haven't received any letter from you.

I also received a letter from them stating I owe them money. I am unaware of whom it is through. I have been trying to contact them on the matter, because I never opened a new account in 2007 and that is the date they are stating it was opened. Have you found out anymore information on them?

Talking with this company on the phone is futile!!! I would NEVER give they any information to verify ANYTHING.

Send them a certified letter to stop calling and VERIFY the alleged debt.

They are bottom feeders.................

You should contact the different credit reporting agency's (Experion) and see what else is on your credit report. Very difficult to prove your self innocent. I have been trying to reach Pinnacle myself, but getting no where fast.

I recently looked into my credit report and i seen a NEW charge and posting from Pinnacle Credit Services stating that i owe them for a Verizon Wireless Account (funny how i see that company name alot when it comes to pinnacle), opened in Nov 2008, and it was reported Jan 2010. NEVER owned a Verizon Wireless Account! What is the BEST approach to handle the situation, when i haven't received a letter or phone call from them?

This company, Pinnacle Asset Group, is not licensed or accredited to do business in the state of Florida (a subsidiary might be, but they are not using that name). They tracked down ex-relatives from over a decade ago(including the wife of a deceased ex-brother and an ex-father-in-law), gave out personal information over the phone, never contacted me, told everyone I opened a card in 2008 using my ex last name (both not true) and was being sued for not paying it off and told my ex-husband he was my brother. They then hunted down my current husband's relatives (we've been married over 13 years) some in other states and whom I've never met and said we both owned the CC!! The Attorney General's Office and the FTC and the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, all filed complaints on my behalf(1 over the phone, one on-line and the other you have to mail in). I tried to get their address in Erie County, NY, but no joy. The AG said any company and complaint that is legitimate would give out an address. She also reccomended I go to the Sherriff's Office to file a harrassment claim.
DO NOT SPEAK with these people unless you can get an address, then send them a letter asking them to cease and desist calling you or anyone else (they used a database search to hunt down anyone who MIGHT be connected to me). In the letter, also ask for them to send you the original signed contract/debt. I'm now in the process of finding an attorney who won't charge me unless we collect because we have grounds to sue for illegal business practices, fraud and slander.
Do not ignore these people. Whether or not their claim is legit, they will attempt to file a judgment against you and ding your credit report (file a dispute with the big 3 credit companies-u can do this online for free). If they do not contact you in writing, if they contact any persons you know to ask anything other than your phone number/contact info, if they give out information such as: you're being sued or give a "claim" number to anyone else but you, or represent themselves to be attorneys, threaten to garnish your wages or have you arrested, you have the legal right to sue them and file complaints with the above agencies.
Be proactive to protect yourself, it's the only way to stop fraudulent companies.

Please tell me how you finally got Pinnacle off of your credit report. I'm currently trying to get them off via disputes with the CRA's but so far no success. Per everyone's suggestions I've avoided making contact with them by phone.

Please share your secret! ;)
